THE WESTERN TRAUMA ASSOCIATION
39TH ANNUAL SCIENTIFIC MEETING
CRESTED BUTTE, COLORADO
FEBRUARY 22 - FEBRUARY 28, 2009
DEADLINE FOR RECEIPT OF ABSTRACTS IS OCTOBER 1, 2008
INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHOR
(PRINT THIS PAGE FOR REFERENCE)
1. Online submissions must be made using this form. Submitted text is subject
to text-length limitations. The Abstract Form will not be corrected prior to
publication in the program booklet. The Title, Authors, Institution, Presenter,
Senior Sponsor, and City/State text will be reproduced in the exact form in
which they are submitted by the author. Abstracts not conforming to the
requirements indicated below or received after OCTOBER 1, 2008, will not be
considered. DO NOT send FAXed copies. DO NOT print the online form and submit
it via fax or mail. SUBMISSION OF ABSTRACTS ON PAPER IS NO LONGER
ACCEPTABLE.
2. Title Block: The Title must be completely CAPITALIZED. Do not use
abbreviations. No reference to the authors or institution should appear in the
Title. Authors' initials precede the last names. Include each author's highest
degree, but OMIT FACS, etc. (Example: J.D. Doe, M.D.).
3. Abstract submission mode: Abstract text can be submitted via one of two
methods: a) Text Only, or b) as a Microsoft Word Document.
| a) | TEXT ONLY. Abstracts acceptable for Text Only submission should have no
special characters (i.e., Greek alphabetic characters, ±, ≥, ≤, °, etc.).
Also, there should be no special formatting required, such as tables or
columns. Finally, no graphs or charts can be submitted through this route (use
the Microsoft Word Document submission instead). If, however, your abstract
consists of text only, the abstract can be submitted by typing or pasting it
into the text box provided on the online form.
|
| b) | MICROSOFT WORD DOCUMENT. If your abstract has special characters (i.e.,
Greek alphabetic characters, ±, ≥, ≤, °, etc.), tables, columns, charts, or
graphs, you will need to submit it as a Microsoft Word document. First,
download the Microsoft Word Template from the WTA website. Type in or paste
the text, tables, charts, and/or graphs as you wish them to appear in the Word
document. DO NOT CHANGE THE FONT SIZE, PAGE MARGINS, OR PAPER SIZE FROM THEIR
SETTING IN THE TEMPLATE. DO NOT EXCEED ONE PAGE. Once your abstract appears
the way you want it, upload the completed document to the website.
|
4. Abstract Block: The abstract must include the following: why the study was
done, how it was done, and the importance of the findings. Indent the first
line of each new paragraph three spaces. No reference to the authors or
institution should appear within the body of the abstract.
5. Corrections: Proofread carefully. Correct all mistakes before submitting
your abstract online. You will not have the opportunity to edit your
submission online once it is submitted.
6. Residents' Paper Contest: Indicate whether abstract is to be considered for
the Earl Young Residents' Competition on the online form. IT IS THE EXPECTATION
OF THE WESTERN TRAUMA ASSOCIATION THAT THE SPONSORING FACULTY MEMBER WILL BE IN
ATTENDANCE FOR THE PRESENTATION OF RESIDENT PAPERS. Be sure you have included
the Sponsoring Member's e-mail address to help ensure the sponsor is notified
of his or her obligation.
7. Additional Instructions: Check all appropriate boxes on the submission form.
Complete all of the information requested. Review the Additional Requirements
for Authors and mail in or e-mail any necessary supporting documents in
accordance with the instructions.
