Other causes of persistent instability include exsanguinating hemorrhage from a severe pelvic fracture and massive hemothorax, whereas causes of nonhemorrhagic shock include tension pneumothorax, cardiac tamponade, myocardial contusion or infarction, air embolism, and neurogenic shock.
