Signs and Symptoms of Blunt Cerebrovascular Injuries (BCVI)

  • Arterial hemorrhage from neck, nose, or mouth

  • Expanding cervical hematoma

  • Cervical bruit in patient < 50 years old

  • Focal neurologic defect:

    • transient ischemic attack (TIA)

    • hemiparesis

    • vertebrobasilar symptoms

    • Horner's Syndrome

  • Stroke on CT or MRI

  • Neurologic deficit inconsistent with head CT
