Western Trauma Association
38th Annual Meeting

President’s Message

December 14, 2007

Dear WTA Members, Family and Friends

On behalf of the Officers and Board of Directors of the Western Trauma Association, I would like to invite you to our 39th Annual Meeting. This year, WTA will be at The Resort at Squaw Creek in Olympic Valley, California (www.squawcreek.com).  The resort has been completely remodeled from the studs out since our last trip there. The meeting will start with the WTA Welcoming Reception on Sunday February 24, 2007 from 5-7 pm and conclude on February 29, with the final scientific session.

Squaw Valley can be reached through air travel to Reno, Nevada. This airport is serviced by most major carriers: American (via Dallas, Chicago), United (Denver, Chicago, etc), Southwest (LA, Oakland, Midway, Houston Hobby), US Air (Phoenix), Continental (Houston), Delta (Atlanta, Salt Lake), etc. We have made arrangements for shuttle service from the Reno Airport.  To make discounted reservations, please call 866.909.RIDE ext 16. Please be sure to ask for the Western Trauma Association rate or $49.00 each way.  If you are planning on fly-fishing or snowmobiling (20 minutes by ground) or trying your luck in the casinos (about 30 minutes), renting a vehicle is advisable.

The Scientific Sessions, Reception, and Banquet will be held on site at the conference center. The Family and Friends Breakfasts will be in the Cascades Restaurant (open only to the WTA). We had a near record number of abstract submissions, and  Dr. Christine Cocanour and the program committee have assembled a great program. In addition to original research presentations, we will have a point-counterpoint session (Factor VIIa, and early versus late chemical prophylaxis for DVT/PE in patients with brain injury) and the all new WTA Critical Decisions in Trauma Algorithms on splenic injury and pelvic fracture.

WTA is trying to ‘go green’ this year. We will NOT be mailing out registration packets, but will have the whole process and all the information on-line. In this email packet, you will find:

·         Registration Information

·         Hotel Information

·         Airport Transfer Information

·         Schedule of Events

The terrain has something for everyone, the Nordic Ski center is arguably the best in North America and there are plenty of other activities available (fly fishing, snow mobiling, etc). This will be a great meeting, please join us!

Sincerely,

Jim Davis MD
